MobiKwik RBI NBFC Licence 2026: Major Expansion
MobiKwik RBI NBFC Licence 2026: Major Expansion
MobiKwik RBI NBFC Licence 2026 marks a significant development for the Indian fintech company as it prepares to expand beyond digital payments and loan distribution. One MobiKwik Systems announced on 6 November 2026 that its wholly owned subsidiary, MobiKwik Financial Services Private Limited, had received its final Certificate of Registration from the Reserve Bank of India.
The registration was issued on 5 November, following in-principle approval granted in April. MobiKwik now plans to introduce its own lending operations within three to six months.
What the RBI Registration Allows
Until now, MobiKwik’s lending business has primarily operated through partnerships with banks and other regulated lenders.
Its new NBFC registration allows the subsidiary to originate loans directly, subject to applicable regulatory requirements.
The company intends to begin with an asset-light co-lending model, working alongside established financial institutions rather than immediately building a large standalone loan portfolio.
According to its 6 November stock-exchange disclosure, the certificate has no stated expiry date.
However, regulatory registration should not be confused with an immediate commercial launch. The company has yet to commence the proposed NBFC operations.
MobiKwik RBI NBFC Licence 2026: Lending Targets
MobiKwik has outlined an ambitious expansion plan covering consumers and micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs).
| Key development | Company’s announcement |
|---|---|
| NBFC registration issued | 5 November 2026 |
| Registration disclosed | 6 November 2026 |
| Expected operational launch | Within 3–6 months |
| Target loan disbursements | ₹5,000 crore |
| Target period | Next 3–4 years |
| Lending approach | Asset-light co-lending |
The ₹5,000 crore figure is a future disbursement target. It does not represent loans already issued, revenue earned or a confirmed loan book.
MobiKwik expects to develop secured and unsecured credit products for individual borrowers and smaller businesses.
Why MobiKwik Is Entering Direct Lending
The company already operates a digital payments platform with a substantial customer and merchant network.
According to its announcement, the platform serves approximately 196 million users and five million merchants.
Direct lending could give MobiKwik greater flexibility in designing financial products, assessing borrowers and participating in lending revenue.
Its existing technology systems and partnerships may also help the company distribute credit products without establishing a traditional branch network.
However, expanding into lending introduces additional responsibilities, including credit assessment, loan monitoring, collections and managing defaults.
Better lending economics remain a company objective rather than a guaranteed financial outcome.
What Co-Lending Means for Borrowers
Under a co-lending arrangement, two regulated lenders can participate in financing a loan according to an agreed structure.
For customers, this may provide access to products developed through a fintech platform while involving established lending institutions.
Nevertheless, the actual borrowing experience will depend on the product launched and the applicable agreement.
Borrowers should check the identity of the regulated lender, annual percentage rate, processing charges, repayment schedule and grievance-redressal arrangements.
They should also review the Key Facts Statement and avoid assuming that a familiar payments app automatically offers the lowest-cost credit.
The NBFC licence itself does not guarantee approval for any customer.
How Its Existing Lending Business Is Performing
MobiKwik reported loan disbursements of ₹1,083 crore through 11 lending partners during Q2 FY27, representing 34% year-on-year growth.
Those figures relate to its existing lending-partnership business, not loans originated by the newly registered NBFC.
This distinction matters because the new subsidiary’s eventual performance will depend on its launch, underwriting quality, funding arrangements and customer demand.
The company expects the NBFC to complement rather than immediately replace its established lender partnerships.
The Next Milestone Is the First Loan
The regulatory approval removes an important obstacle to MobiKwik’s planned lending expansion, but execution now becomes the central question.
Investors should watch for the subsidiary’s operational launch, the structure of its first co-lending partnerships and disclosures on loan performance.
For potential borrowers, the meaningful development will be the publication of actual loan products, prices and eligibility conditions.
Until then, MobiKwik’s ₹5,000 crore ambition remains a forward-looking business target—not an achieved financial result.
